Wrestling Legend Kuniaki Kobayashi Passes Away at 70

In a release, New Japan Pro Wrestling said that Kuniaki Kobayashi had died at the age of 68.

During his nearly 30-year career, Kobayashi worked for several promotions in Japan, Mexico, and the US. He was the IWGP Junior Heavyweight early in the promotion’s history, which was just one of many titles he won.

During his trips to North America, Kobayashi made one-time outings with the NWA in Los Angeles and the World Wrestling Federation. He then returned to Japan in 1982.

He may be best remembered for his fights with different luchadors in Mexico, such as Los Villanos, and two different versions of Tiger Mask in New Japan.

Kobayashi quit in 2000 after his last of four matches against Jushin Liger. He made a few appearances afterward, like in the 2017 Wrestle Kingdom Ranbo match, and was very involved in running the NJPW Dojo until the day he died.

We’re sorry for the loss of Kuniaki Kobayashi and send our respects to his family, friends, and fans.
